The 369 Manifestation Method

Also called 369 method, manifestation ritual, scripting, law of attraction spell

A daily writing practice where you write one desire 3 times in the morning, 6 in the afternoon and 9 at night. It is a modern internet method, popular since about 2020, that grew out of the nineteenth-century New Thought movement and its law of attraction.

The working

  1. Choose one desire and write it as a short present-tense sentence, for example: I am settled in a job I enjoy that pays my bills with room to spare.
  2. Each morning, write the sentence 3 times, slowly, picturing what it would feel like.
  3. In the afternoon, write it 6 times.
  4. Before bed, write it 9 times and notice one small step you could take tomorrow.
  5. Keep going for the period you chose; many guides suggest 21, 33 or 45 days.
  6. Take the small steps. The writing keeps a goal in front of you, and the steps are what change things.
  7. If you like scripting, also write one page as a journal entry dated a year ahead, describing the goal as already done.

Take care: Writing a goal can help focus, but do not skip medical care, debt advice or other real help while waiting for a manifestation. Be wary of paid courses promising guaranteed results.

Versions across time and place

i

Thoughts Are Things

New Thought · 1886 to 1892

Prentice Mulford, a former California gold miner and humorist, argued in essays published from 1886 that thoughts are real forces that attract matching circumstances. Many later law of attraction ideas, including mental picturing and affirmation, are already in his work.

Thought Vibration and The Secret

New Thought to self-help · 1906 to 2006

William Walker Atkinson, who dedicated his first book to Mulford, popularised the phrase law of attraction in 1906. A century later Rhonda Byrne's film and book The Secret made it a global bestseller and set the template for modern manifesting.

The Tesla attribution

Social media · 2020 onward

The 369 method is usually credited to Nikola Tesla through a line about the magnificence of 3, 6 and 9. Fact-checkers have found no reliable source for that quote, and Tesla left no manifestation method. The method spread on TikTok in late 2020 and 2021.

History

The idea that thinking makes it so took shape in the New Thought movement of late nineteenth-century America. Prentice Mulford's essays, collected as Your Forces and How to Use Them and published from 1886, and his 1889 book Thoughts Are Things, taught that steady thought attracts matching events. William Walker Atkinson's Thought Vibration of 1906 gave it the name law of attraction, and Rhonda Byrne's The Secret in 2006 made it a mass-market phenomenon.

The 369 method is a much newer layer. It went viral on TikTok and Instagram in late 2020, tied to a quotation about 3, 6 and 9 attributed to Nikola Tesla that no one has traced to his writings. Tesla did have documented habits around the number three, but no manifestation practice. As a writing habit for keeping a goal in view, the method is harmless; it is not an old spell.
